There is a clear and important difference between law enforcement and agencies like U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement operating under the Department of Homeland Security.
Recent events and reporting have raised serious concerns about how immigration enforcement is being carried out across this country. From troubling detention conditions to incidents that have sparked national outrage, communities are demanding answers and accountability.
Let me be clear: I believe in accountability, transparency, and humanity in all enforcement actions. No one—no family, no citizen, no human being—should live in fear of how laws are enforced.
When I speak about supporting law enforcement, I am speaking about the men and women in our communities—our police officers, deputies, and first responders—who put their lives on the line every single day to protect and serve every American.
These are the individuals who build trust in our neighborhoods, respond in times of crisis, and uphold public safety with courage and dedication.
We can—and must—do both: support our local law enforcement while also demanding oversight, accountability, and respect for human dignity in federal immigration enforcement.
Because in America, safety should never come at the cost of dignity. And justice must apply to everyone.”
